Umesh Deva – Helping adults to use the internet

Umesh Deva is a 22 year old student at De Montfort University studying Computer Science, and who is currently on a one year placement one of our IT technicians. This has involved him dealing with customers and selling and repairing computer systems for them. After spending some time as an IT technician he undertook running IT sessions for our learners at our Belgrave Training Centre. This involved teaching adults who are not digitally aware the basic knowledge and skills to become confident internet users. Many adult learners attended his sessions and enjoy learning from him.UmeshDeva

After a few months, Umesh started running 'Learn My Way' sessions for us three days a week and also carried on as an IT technician after the sessions were over. After completing his degree, Umesh would like to consider becoming a full time IT tutor teaching all aspects of computing.

Umesh said “I have enjoyed meeting new people at the Cooke e-Learning Foundation. I have also enjoyed building and upgrading computers. Repairing customer’s computers and laptops is always very challenging for me as they have different faults, but it helps build my knowledge of IT.

Teaching adults is also very enjoyable. My role is to help them use computers and build their confidence when using technology that is new to them. I enjoy working with the learners that are eager to learn new things and those that want to become more digitally aware.”
